Alan Shearer accused of 'double standards' as social media post resurfaces after PSG penalty vs Newcastle

Alan Shearer has been accused of hypocrisy by Arsenal fans regarding his X-rated tweets following Newcastle United's 1-1 away draw with PSG in the Champions League.

Newcastle put up a very resolute defensive performance at the Parc de Princes, but the hosts eventually equalised with an injury-time penalty from Kylian Mbappe.

The award of the penalty came under massive scrutiny with TNT pundit Jermaine Jenas labelling it "one of the most disgraceful decisions I've seen in a long time."

The ball hit Newcastle defender Tino Livramento on the elbow after it ricocheted off the 21-year-old's knee, an action that wouldn't be deemed an offence in the Premier League.

The referee on the night, Szymon Marciniak, initially dismissed PSG's appeals but changed his decision after being sent over to the monitor by VAR.

PSG had previously seen a very similar claim involving Lewis Miley waved away, which made the award of the 98th minute penalty even more bizarre.

Alan Shearer took to social media to vent his disgust with the decision, posting on X: "Do me a f**king favour man. What a load of sh*t."

Rival fans were quick to pull up one of Shearer's previous posts on social media relating to VAR following Newcastle's controversial 1-0 win against Arsenal earlier in the season.

Anthony Gordon's winning goal against the Gunners caused uproar after VAR chose to award it after a lengthy check, despite Arsenal fans' adamance that it shouldn't have stood.

Shearer took to X after that match to post: "Well done ref. You're the man."

Arsenal fans were quick to call Shearer out on Tuesday night following Newcastle's draw with PSG.

"Cry me a river," posted one fan.

Another added: "Alan Shearer has always been known for double standards, not surprised."

While a third replied: "I thought we have to respect the referees as though to not undermine them?"

A draw for Newcastle in Paris means they are no longer in control of their own destiny in their Champions League group, with one round of matches remaining.

Eddie Howe's side need to beat AC Milan at home and hope PSG fail to win away at Borussia Dortmund.
