Andrew Flintoff's Top Gear co-star Chris Harris speaks out on horror crash in new health update

Cricket legend Andrew Flintoff is still 'healing' from his horror Top Gear crash last year, co-star Chris Harris has said.

Flintoff presented Top Gear alongside Harris and comedian Paddy McGuinness for three years between 2019 and 2022. It is unclear if he will return to the BBC show.

The former Lancashire and England all-rounder suffered severe facial injuries and broken ribs during a crash while filming for Top Gear in December.

His car, a three-wheel Morgan Super 3, flipped while he was driving at the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.

In September, BBC Studios stated that it had reached 'an agreement' with Flintoff, reported to be a financial settlement worth around £9 million, after the crash.

The 2005 Ashes icon remained out of the public eye for a number of months following the horror crash, before joining up with the England coaching staff on an informal basis for their recent one-day series against New Zealand.

England white ball coach Matthew Mott confirmed that Flintoff, who has not been present during the Cricket World Cup, would 'definitely' join up with the squad again.

In the meantime, as per The Telegraph's Will Macpherson, he will act as a coach for the England Lions squad's upcoming winter training camp in the United Arab Emirates, which takes place between November 16 and December 7.

Now, former co-star Harris - a journalist and racing driver - has spoken about the 45-year-old's recovery from his crash.

He told The Times: "I'm just over the moon that my friend Fred is still with us.

"If there is only one good thing that comes out of it, it is that there's been dignity. Fred's been given the time to heal. It's been a tough time.

"I defy anyone to not care about their friends if they get injured. I do."

In a separate interview with BBC Breakfast, Harris added: "I think he's healing. It was a serious incident. I'm not going to say more than that.

"As I've said in the book [his new autobiography, which releases on November 9] and in the few interviews I've given, I'm so proud of the fact that team Top Gear kept everything quiet and we were dignified.

"There is nothing out there about what happened and there won't be. There's no mole in the organisation. I'm really, really proud of that.

"As long as he's healing, it's great to see him out and about being passionate about cricket."
