Fans in shock after interviewer makes 'crisis' comment during chat with Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag appeared slightly taken aback when a reporter suggested that people "from the outside" would like to see the club in crisis.

It has been a largely turbulent campaign for Ten Hag and his United side, who currently sit bottom of Group A ahead of this week's Champions League clash against Galatasaray.

That being said, their recent form in the Premier League has certainly helped matters. They ran out 3-0 winners over Everton on Sunday as Alejandro Garnacho scored one of the goals of the season.

And the Reds will be hoping their form continues when they come up against Okan Buruk's side on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the game in Istanbul, Erik ten Hag spoke to TNT Sports about a number of topics, but one comment from the interview has provoked a strong reaction online.

As you can see from the footage below, the conversation went as followed.

"Every week feels like a big week but this feels like an important week for you," the reporter says. "A little bit of a point where the season can really improve, or another crisis as we like to see from the outside."

Ten Hag, who clearly didn't expect such a comment, replied: "Oh, you like it? Okay, that’s quite honest. You want to see it, but we don’t care about that.”

Here's how social media reacted to the clip.

One fan said: "I don't think the journalist necessarily meant it like that but good for EtH. So calm and composed," while another commented: "Really strange thing for the interviewer to say."

A third wrote: "He actually confirmed that they like seeing him struggle, that's crazy... Props to ten Hag for the response."

A fourth added: "What, and I must emphasise this, WHAT have I just watched? That’s a crazy thing to say to him. Well dealt with by Erik."

United, who have lost three games in Europe this season, must win against Galatasaray to keep their chances of reaching the last 16 alive.

Ten Hag is confident of their chances at Rams Park. "We know we can [win away in Europe] and we are confident," he said in his pre-match press conference.

"The last games away from home in the league were also very hostile environments. We played very well. We were very calm and composed."

He added: "We have to make it our game and it's the history. Obviously Manchester United has a great history, but you can't take any guarantee from it in the future, so we have to make our own future.

"It's the past, so tomorrow it's about the future, so we have to make it our game. It's on us."
